In 2019 Doohamlet Community & Resource Centre is undergoing a major redevelopment with an estimated value of €750,000. The project will completely refurbish the existing sports hall and meeting room, and will construct an extension with receoption area, new meeting room, new kitchen and new toilets. The whole building will be more energy efficient, providing a comfortable and welcoming space for use by everyone in Doohamlet and wider County Monaghan.
Works started on the 4th March 2019 and are due for completion in Spring 2020.
The project has been developing since 2012. With some assistance from Monaghan County Council’s Community Grants, FJ Coyle & Associates Consulting Engineers were appointed to progress the project through planning and procurement, and their services will be retained for the construction stage.
Funding of €500,000 has been received from the Monaghan Leader Rural Development Programme. Funding of €13,422 has been received from the Sustainable Energy Authority of Ireland ‘Support Scheme for Renewable Heat’.
Contributions in kind (Voluntary Labour and the value of the Lease) will make up €83,500. A cash contribution of over will be required to deliver the project. The Community Centre Committee already has cash reserves from various fundraising initiatives over the past 6 years. A loan will be taken out to cover the balance and fundraising will continue to pay off the loan.
We are delighted that local firm Doohamlet Construction Co. Ltd emerged as the successful bidder following an extensive public procurement process – this large scale investment will create local employment and support our local economy!
